Hair Transplant Specialist
Dr. Mary Jo Kristine S. Bunagan is a board certified dermatologist with a dermatology residency training obtained from the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center, the main hospital of the Philippine Department of Health. Prior to residency she completed her medical degree from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine. In addition, she completed a master’s degree in public health at the University of the Philippines College of Public Health where she graduated with the highest academic rating.
She has great interest in hair transplantation recognizing that hair loss disorders such as male and female pattern hair loss and other hair diseases is a global problem and adversely affects the quality of life of individuals. She developed her expertise and skills through extensive fellowship training in hair restoration surgery accredited by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery. She specializes in follicular unit transplantation for male pattern hair loss (MPHL), female pattern hair loss (FPHL), scarring alopecia secondary to burn and inactive disease and cosmetic surgery induced scars and alopecia and eyebrow transplantation for indicated hair loss etiologies.
Due to her interest in the various aspects of hair transplantation she has done studies which were presented at the 15th and 16th Annual Scientific Meeting of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery at Las Vegas Nevada and Montreal Canada, respectively. Her oral presentation was on Recipient Area Folliculitis Following Follicular Unit Transplantation: A Retrospective Analysis of Associated Factors and a poster presentation on Hair Transplantation in Asian Women: A Retrospective Review of Common Indications, Procedural Techniques and Post-operative Outcome. She has also co-authored research studies on the Optimal Aesthetic Result of Eyebrow Transplantation in Asians.
